Viticultureinthe Aosta Valleyis a heroic art, as most of the vineyards are literally clinging to the slopes, dominated by rock.
The vineyard area of the Aosta Valley is about 400 hectares , of which 70% is located in the mountains and the remainder in the hills. The vineyard soils are mainly composed of granite in the Morgex area, while in Arnad-Montjovet and Donnas sandy-clayey soils prevail. The wine production of the Aosta Valley amounts to about 20,000 hl , with 60% of red and rosé wines and 40% of white wines.
