Co-founder Robin Gerlach was inspired by a custom dating back to the 18th century, when gin was transported in wooden barrels. The aim was to find a way to retain the smoothness of London Dry and increase the complexity of its flavour profile without distorting its freshness. After much experimentation, Robin found the perfect combination of new and old barrels: the ideal blend involves the use of three different types of oak. For this limited edition, Elephant Gin has chosen a rye base for its spicy and fruity characteristics. The 14 botanicals used are those of Elephant London Dry Gin, increased in quantity to achieve the greatest persistence of flavours even after the ageing process. The result is a premium Elephant London Dry Gin based on rye with an ABV of 52%, aged in oak barrels for approximately one year. Elephant Gin contributes 15% of its profits to the activities of three foundations: Big Life Foundation, Space For Elephants and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which work to protect the African elephant from extinction.
