Primitive

Primitivo is a red grape variety also known as zinfandel . It is the third most widely planted grape variety in Puglia , southern Italy.

In 1700, Don Francesco Filippi Indelicati, a priest from Gioia del Colle, noticed that a red grape variety ripened much earlier than the others, already around mid-August. This grape variety was called “ Zagarese ” in the local dialect, but was renamed “Primitivo” from the Latin “Primativus” precisely because of its early ripening .

It produces a fruity wine in which blackberry, black plum and strawberry jam triumph, with evident notes of sweet spices, liquorice, vanilla and tobacco.
