Sangiovese Red Wines
Il re dei rossi dell'Italia centrale
Sangiovese is an Italian red grape variety, among the most loved in our country. It is the most widespread native red grape variety in Italy; as much as 11% of the national vineyard surface is grown with this grape.
The origins of Sangiovese are uncertain, but the first reliable information dates back to the 16th century . Giovan Vettorio Soderini, in his treatise “Tuscan Cultivation of Vines and Some Trees”, describes it as a productive and regular vine. Sangiovese prefers clayey-calcareous soils that are not very fertile and has a late ripening. There are approximately 160 varieties of Sangiovese, and its capacity for change is high. It is a versatile vine, capable of producing excellent wines.
