Carricanteisa native Sicilian grape variety, particularly widespread in the province of Catania, especially on the slopes of Etna.
Carricante grows at high altitudes, between the750 to 950 meters above sea level , where theNerello Mascalesestruggles to mature. The Etna areaIt offers a strictly volcanic terrain, composed of different types of lava, lapilli, ash and sand and the proximity to the sea contributes to the accumulation of mineral substances, such assodium chloride , which are reflected in wines.
Carricante produces light, slightly colored wines withhigh fixed acidity. The aromas are elegant , often herbaceous and floral. Wines obtained from Carricante are known for theirlongevity.
