Piedirossois a black grape variety, native toCampania, particularly theNaples area. Its origins are very ancient, and the dialectname “Per' e palummo” refers to the pedicels of the grapes, colored red like those of a dove's foot. Until the early twentieth century, the grape variety was known asPiede di Colombo.
Piedirosso is grown mainly in the provinces ofCaserta ,NaplesAndSalerno and prefers calcareous soils and finds its natural environment in the volcanic soils of Campania, especially in the hills between the300-400 meters above sea level . This vine is very vigorous and has a medium-late ripening, placed in the first 20 days of October.
Piedirosso wines have an olfactory bouquet that varies from red fruits such as plums and cherries in young wines to the tertiary nuances of those aged in wood, with notes of coffee , tobacco and spices .
