Bordeaux wines are renowned throughout the world for their quality and variety.
The Bordeaux region enjoys a privileged location , with a climate influenced by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and an important presence of forests to the east that protect it from cold currents. It is also famous for its gravelly soils, excellent for drainage.
The main grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc for red wines, known for forming the famous “Bordeaux cut”. This is not a blend, as commonly defined, but rather an assembly of wines. For whites we find Sémillon , Sauvignon Blanc, Muscadelle and UgniBlanc , the latter famous for being the favourite grape variety for the production of Cognac and Armagnac .
This region is famous for being the first to have classified wines in 1855 through the system that includes Châteaux, Crus and Terroirs .
