Tuscany - Wines

Tuscan viticulture is one of the most representative for Italian wine. This region is famous for the production of excellent quality wines, thanks to a unique combination of climate , geological composition of the soil and variety of grapes grown . The crops are distributed mainly on hilly and mountainous terrains, which are particularly suited for climatic and geological reasons. Tuscany has about 60,000 hectares of vineyard surface, producing almost 2,500,000 hectolitres of wine , of which more than 60% gives life to wines belonging to DOC .

Among the most famous production areas in Tuscany we cannot fail to mention Chianti , probably the best known area. Here the Sangiovese grape variety is mainly grown, and the prevailing soils are clayey-calcareous with the presence of gravel and sand, which give the wine structure and aromatic complexity. Famous and of great international importance is Bolgheri , renowned for its high-quality red wines, especially those based on international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

In addition to red wines, Tuscany also produces white wines. Vernaccia di San Gimignano is the region's first DOCG white wine, while Vermentino is present along the northern coastal strip. Bianco di Pitigliano is instead the protagonist in the Maremma Grossetana.
