After 50 years from the release of its first vintage, Sassicaia confirms itself as a world-class excellence and is the flagship of Italian superwines. And it is increasingly being talked about.
In addition to being the first Italian wine sought after in the world, according to the ranking drawn up by the Wine Searcher portal, Sassicaia for 2024 reconfirms its appeal thanks to Robert Parker's 100/100.
It is certainly a wine that has always attracted conflicting opinions, first and foremost regarding its quality-price ratio. Many think it is overrated, many others sing its praises.
For those who study and appreciate wine in a transversal way, the first objective analysis is based on the fact that Sassicaia is undoubtedly an avant-garde wine, born from a desire and a study that in the 60s of the last century, opened the doors to a new Italian concept of drinking. The baggage of innovation and technique that this wine brought with its release is not to be overlooked. Furthermore, it has redeemed the position of Bolgheri in the eyes of the world, historically considered a territory not for reds.
Its prestige goes hand in hand with criticism, based on the fact that Bolgheri and its DOC have around 70 wineries and that you can drink excellent wine without necessarily having to spend exorbitant amounts.
The advice is definitely to go and discover new realities, less known and emblematic, but that produce quality wines, with passion and rigor, respecting the specifications and the Bolgheri tradition. And why not, start evaluating and collecting new labels that in the future could become important in the eyes of world critics.
What is certain, and what we all agree on, is the fact that without a shadow of a doubt Sassicaia is the best Italian wine to invest in. Every year its market value increases and this pushes more and more enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts to grab one or more bottles to put in real vaults. A liquid treasure, which year after year increases prestige, value and notoriety. Having a Sassicaia, especially from prestigious vintages such as 2014 and 2016, is equivalent to owning a capital that is always growing.
In short, for Sassicaia the following rule applies: whether people talk about it well or badly, the important thing is that people talk about it.
