Lagrein Red Wines

Lagrein is a red grape variety native to Alto Adige, a region located in the north of Italy. This grape variety is known for its fascinating history and organoleptic characteristics that make it a fine wine.

Until the 18th century, the term “Lagrein” mainly referred to the white Lagrein , which was probably the most important variety in the Bolzano area. In 1379, a document from Termeno clearly mentioned the Lagrein wine, while in 1498 a source from Bolzano made explicit reference to the “good white Lagrein”. Genetic analyses show that Lagrein is closely related to Teroldego and Marzemino .

Wines produced with Lagrein grapes are distinguished by notes of wild berries , violets and often subtle hints of chocolate or tobacco . On the palate, the tannins are pronounced and persistent.
