A false myth in the world of wine to be debunked : red wine is not drunk in the summer . Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, it is commonly thought that in the summer the consumption of red wine decreases, while in truth this is not exactly the case.
Red wine is stereotypically associated with the cold period of the year and therefore in summer we tend to discard the option of tasting one just because they are considered "strong wines". But the color of our drink does not always define its structure and for many years now red has been consumed regularly even during the hot season. High temperatures and culinary habits tend to lead us to choose fresh and light products, but never at the expense of taste and pleasure.
In addition to there being many wines that can be safely enjoyed in the summer, there are various factors to take into account for a pleasant and fresh drink. Let's discover them together.
ALCOHOL CONTENT During the summer season we prefer wines whose alcohol content does not exceed 13% vol.
SERVING TEMPERATURE Summer red wines should be served at a temperature between 14° and 18° . However, this remains a subjective choice.
STRUCTURE AND BODY The summer choice inevitably falls on young and light wines , which have not undergone long aging, especially in wood. This is so that the acidity that is the backbone of the wine remains the same and gives us freshness.
