Greco is a white grape varietywidespread throughout central Italy, particularly in Campania, but also in Abruzzo, Lazio, Liguria, Molise, Puglia, Sardinia and Tuscany.
Two distinct grape varieties derive from the original Greco variety:
Greco Bianco : This grape variety takes its name from the town of Bianco, on the Ionian coast of Calabria.
Greek proper : It is used to produce well-known wines, including theGreco di Tufo , which is a controlled and guaranteed designation of origin (DOCG) in Campania. The production area includes the town of Tufo and seven other hillside communities. The region's vineyard soils are rich in tuff, a rock formed from volcanic ash, from which the town itself takes its name. Greco di Tufo wines are ready to drink up to 3-4 years after harvest and can age up to 10-12 years.
